Buddha mentioned the students to have inspections first because bad things will inevitably happen when getting the wrong guru

When Like Jigme practiced Guru Yoga, he visualized Longchenpa as the Buddha. There was no impure thought towards Guru. For the Dharma practitioners, specifically Vajrayana practitioners, the Guru is very important.

Guru is the main deity in the center of all the mandalas

We need to understand the Guru is inseparable from all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattvas and all the mandala. The Guru is the main deity in the center of all the mandalas.

Thinking of Guru all the time of day and night will give us a great power to protect ourselves from Samsara

The idea to practice Guru Yoga is to receive the blessing from Guru, which means one becomes inseparable from Guru. One doesn't have to have too many thoughts but only faith, only mindfulness, only visualization of Guru.

The lineage and master is one of the utmost important factors for one to be a Vajra master

These teachers that I just mentioned are not ordinary teachers but they were really important teachers, very important teachers in this century.

The most important thing is to rely on a qualified Guru and to follow His instructions

I mentioned earlier that [Guru is] someone who is able to point at one’s nature; someone, who is able to show you the path to the nature of the mind. And therefore, it is a very important person in one's life, because for a Dharma practitioner, most important is to realize one’s own nature; and that has to go through teacher's instructions and guru’s blessing.

The Guru is the most important teacher – other teachers are not able to give us such realization

I actually explained earlier. One student may have many teachers but “Root” means the main teacher. Then come to "Yoga". "Yoga" is like a union in fundamental reality. "Yoga" is the realization of that happy state. For a dharma practitioner, the main reason to go for dharma practice is to have that realization, the genuine realization. And that has to rely on the meditation. What kind of meditation?

The three essential qualities that make one a very good Dharma teacher

A good dharma teacher means very knowledgeable, good conduct and good experienced. Those three qualities make one a very good Dharma teacher.

If you do not try hard and continuously practice, then you cannot get anywhere

Diligence is the third one. Because when one doesn’t put any efforts, then one still doesn’t get anywhere, even one have knowledge.

If there is no devotion, then no Dharma actually, smartness and knowledge are not working properly

When no faith, even you are in the environment of Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, there was no use. And even you can make such situation dangerous for yourself. Whenever I talk about these things.

There are no faith, the instruction don’t work – it is useless

A disciple of Atisha asked him "Oh! Atisha give me a good instruction." Atisha said: "Faith and devotion, devotion, devotion. That is the instruction." We never know devotion is the instruction, right?

If you think you are smart then at the same time you arise your ego

Therefore, all the teachings, all the masters of the teaching, the great Vajrayana or Dzogchen [masters] request highly the devotion first and then the intelligence.
