So that the warm breath of the teaching’s blessing does not vanish
The kind lineage lamas, panditas, and our own lamas have gone through hundreds of thousands of hardships, gained the experience of the secret yana and obtained the signs of success in their minds, so that the warm breath of the teaching’s blessing has not vanished but has been passed from one lama to another. With great love they have poured this into our hearts. This is the result of our accumulation of good karma in previous lives, and we should appreciate its significance.
We need a non-stopping Lineage of the teachings coming from Buddha up to us
There is the mind lineage of the Buddhas, the symbol lineage of the Vidyadharas, and the oral lineage of individuals - these three groups have their own ways of to teach. Buddhas had their own ways of teaching to each other. And Vidyadharas also have their unique way of teaching. And also, ordinary people like us, we have our own way to receive teachings and to teach to others.
Vidyadhara basically means the one who’s able to hold the teachings of the essence or the nature of the mind
So, this is the meditation of the teaching of Longchen Nyingthig practices. All the Vidyadharas of this lineage are very great, compassionate and have wisdom, and Mahasiddhas, so therefore they called Vidyadharas.
They are Masters because of their realization on emptiness of the mind
And then Vidyadharas, of course, means the noble ones, the high beings, high masters. So, this is the meditation of the teaching of Longchen Nyingthig practices. All the Vidyadharas of this lineage are very great, compassionate and have wisdom, and Mahasiddhas, so therefore they called Vidyadharas.
The essential condition for giving important teaching is a permission from one’s own Guru
It's a very common for all Buddhist teachings and especially in Vajrayana teachings, that being a Vajrayana master one must have received the words from the guru saying "you do this", to permit or to give the authority to a student of the Guru, saying: “From now, you're going to teach this to keep the lineage.”
If you do not have sincerity, then it would be very difficult to see good qualities of others
We, students, always talk about the Guru: how good or how bad the Guru is and we usually don’t examine ourself. We think we are good but the Guru is bad (laughing). Because the Guru is bad, my practice doesn't go anywhere, though I'm still good. This is our view, right? (laughing).
We are not able not to lie or not to do gossiping at all
Gossiping is not good really. Gossiping wastes a lot of time, a lot of energy and it really brings a lot of bad things. So no gossip or less gossip. The reason for me to say less is sometimes we are not able not to lie or not to do gossiping at all. Sometimes we still do that. But we should think "This is not okay."
Guru not only knows you but also knows everything of you
“Kind and precious root lama who knows me.” The Guru is kind and precious because due to His kindness we’re able to receive teachings and to be taken to the correct path. “Knowing”. The Guru has to know you, because that's the Guru and you're His student. Still, this is not only about knowing about student, but also knowing you're in a dangerous situation.
Dharma teacher has to have a good history – a long history of studying, history of practice, history of good conduct and a history of good realization
Everyone knows that a teacher, any kind of teacher, has to have good qualities and be well-learned, otherwise [he] cannot teach the students. It's the same in the Dharma.
